CPLAS researchers from King’s exhibited at the Metamaterials in the Real World: Industry Showcase 2025, held on 1 December as part of the EPSRC UK Metamaterials Network initiative. This flagship event brought together leading voices from academia, industry, and government to explore how metamaterials can transform sectors from healthcare to sustainability, aviation and space.

CPLAS shared the exhibitor space with MetaSenz and its hydrogen-detection technology, and discussions around scalable metamaterial fabrication methods for plasmonics showcased how cutting-edge research is moving from the lab to real-world applications.

Highlights from the day included:

Expert panels and keynote talks from pioneers in metamaterials, including Professor Sir John Pendry on The Future of Metamaterials, Dr Claire Dancer on Manufacturing Challenges for Metamaterials, and Dr Tom Allen on Metamaterials for Societal Impact

Networking opportunities with world-leading researchers, industry innovators and policymakers

The launch of the IMechE and UK Metamaterials Network report, Unlocking the Potential of Metamaterials, calling for action to accelerate research-to-market pathways and scale-up manufacturing

As the report emphasises, metamaterials engineered structures with properties beyond those of conventional materials are poised to revolutionise technology across multiple sectors. With continued investment and collaboration, the UK is well positioned to lead this global metamaterials revolution.

CPLAS is proud to contribute to this exciting journey, driving innovation that addresses societal challenges and creates sustainable solutions.
